Director Prakash Jha turned producer for this film along with his wife Manju Wagle and requested Shahrukh Khan to play the lead role. Shah Rukh Khan was one of the first actors to be approached for the film. The director narrated the script to him over a cup of tea at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Shahrukh Khan said that he liked the script and agreed to do the film. Deepika Padukone, after an audition, was selected to play female lead role opposite Shahrukh Khan. Prakash Jha announced that Shahrukh Khan and Deepika will be co-producing this film under their banner Red Chillies Entertainment. In July 2011, Priyanka Chopra joined Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani being cast opposite Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Filming began on February 2011 in Mumbai. The film was shot in India, Europe and New Zealand, which included the city of Auckland. The soundtrack is composed by Pritam while lyrics are penned by Sayeed Quadri, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kausar Munir. Ankit Tiwari, who had sung "Ruk Ruk" for Delhi 6 (2011), has lent his voice for two tracks of this film. Besides, six singers of the Indian pop band Remix Party have sung a song each, making it their first solo Bollywood project. Remix Party is an Indian pop band founded in 1989, which comprises of four vocalists. The full soundtrack album was released on 12 October 2011 at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.
